About Us Shop Shiawassee County.Com is locally owned and operated by life long residents of Laingsburg and Owosso. Our mission is to provide the consumer with up to date businesses, news, weather and local events all on one site. The goal is to promote Shiawassee county by helping local businesses get their products, services and specials out to the consumer. The idea came to mind after searching for a relatively simple item at Christmas time turned out to be a serious chore.After calling 3 local business's and holding on the phone for an average of 10 to 15 minutes just to get someone in the department to answer and then another 5 to 10 minutes while a sales clerk went to check,I had just spent the last hour on the phone making only 3 calls and still had not found what I was looking for.That is when I decided to go to the web and save some time in my search (WRONG) after typing a couple local business names in the address bar and finding no results I started switching the names between .com,.net,.biz,. ,still nothing maybe I spelled something wrong in the name,after a couple letter changes still nothing,the domain names must contain something other than just there business name. That is when I switched to my search engine typed in the key words in the business name and clicked search,finally some results,actually over 110,000 of them,after scanning thru the first 11 pages (most consumers won't go past 3) I found the web site I was looking. After searching their site I found out the item was out of stock,so I went back to the key word search and after 4 more key word searches and scanning thru the multiple page results for each search I had found the item I was looking for.It was out of stock in the store which happened to be one of the stores I called but was in stock at the ware house.After filling out a short order form and giving my credit card number the item was delivered to my door 2 days later. This experience got me thinking wouldn't it be nice to have a local web site with all of the local business's and there web site address all on the same site listed by category.Business's in Shiawassee county spend thousands of dollars to build their web sites and host them on the web to be viewed all over the world when the majority of their business comes from right here in Shiawassee county.
